TAHOE CITY, Calif. — The North Lake Tahoe Historical Society will host its inaugural Heritage Week from Aug. 9-15 in Tahoe City, with exciting and interactive programs and events: a reflection of Lake Tahoe's varied history. Some of the programs include basket-weaving classes, living history demonstrations, a historic bus tour around the Lake and the Old Time Tahoe Picnic and Movie in the Park. Meaningful experiences from Heritage Week will remain with locals and visitors throughout their lives. Monday, Aug. 9

Free Admission to Gatekeeper's Museum

Docent tours available at the Gatekeeper's Museum, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 11

Beginning Pine Needle Basket class with Audrey Frank. Class is at William B. Layton Park, 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Cost is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Pre-reservation is required.

Washoe History at the Gatekeeper's Museum. Hands-on activities and demonstrations, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Free to the public.

Thursday, Aug. 12

36th Annual Home Tour in Rubicon. Event is for members only and costs $55 for a ticket, noon - 4 p.m. Pre-reservation is required.

Friday, Aug. 13

Guest Lecture at Gatekeeper's Museum. Through the Colored Glass, a lecture on bottle History by Paul Ackerman. The lecture begins at 10 a.m. Tickets to the lecture are $4 for members and $5 for non-members and can be purchased at the door.

History Underground: State Park Archeologist's at the Gatekeeper's Museum. Hands on activities, information and artifacts provided by the State Park Archeologists. Free to the public, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the William B. Layton State Park in front of the Gatekeeper's Museum.

Saturday, Aug. 14

Historic Bus Tour around the Lake with Marc McLaughlin. Starts at the Gatekeeper's Museum, 9:30 a.m. for breakfast and tour of the dam. The bus goes around Lake Tahoe, stopping at various historic locations. Lunch included. Ends at the Gatekeeper's Museum around 4 p.m. Tickets cost $60 for members and $65 for non-members. Pre-reservation is required.

Sunday, Aug. 15

Railroad Regulators Living History at the Gatekeeper's Museum

Railroad Regulators 601, out of Truckee will be doing live shows, including shoot-outs, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Gatekeeper's Museum and William B. Layton Park. Free to the public.

Old Time Tahoe Picnic in the Park, 5:30 - 9 p.m. in the William B. Layton Park. Dinner is catered by Whole Foods. Movie is “A Place in the Sun.” Cost is $45 for members and $50 for non-members. Pre-reservation is required.
