This is to thank you, and particularly Sylas Wright, for putting the story about my mother's historic swim in the Aug. 18, 2010, edition of the Sierra Sun, — “Barbara Gordon vs. Donner Lake, Aug. 18, 1935.” Sylas did such an amazing job of bringing her story back to life.
Last August when I saw the article he wrote on the Donner Lake Open Water Swim, I called to ask if he would be interested in the story of Mom's historic swim in 1935. Right from the beginning he was enthusiastic about writing the story, and he was particularly interested to learn that I had original photographs that were taken of the event. At the time, we both agreed it would be best to wait until this summer, with the goal of having the story published on the actual 75th anniversary of her swim. And, as planned, it worked out perfectly to the day!
It was truly a pleasure to work with Sylas, who I found to be very personable and professional. Without a doubt he is a genuine credit to your staff. The family is so proud of Mom's accomplishment at only age 17, and we can't thank you enough for reviving the story 75 years later to ensure that it didn't get lost in time. With a sincere debt of gratitude,
