TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation announced the recipients of the 2010-2011 Linda Brown Fellows and Star Awards at the District Convocation event on Monday, Aug. 23 at Truckee High School.
The 2010-2011 Linda Brown Fellows recipients are: Scott Beaudry, North Tahoe Elementary; Mary Berelson, Glenshire Elementary; Patti McCaffrey, Truckee High School; Kathy Muonio, Kings Beach Elementary and Michelle Reed, Donner Trail Elementary. Recipients each receive $2,000 to be used to enhance educational work within the district and $1,000 for their personal use. The Fellows Program is designed to recognize outstanding teachers and staff members who demonstrate originality, innovation and dedication to the teaching profession that is above and beyond the normally high standards of the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD).
The 2010-2011 Star Award Recipients are: Laurie Adams, North Tahoe Elementary; Brenda Coronado, Glenshire Elementary; Margi Englert, Truckee Elementary; Cindy Maciel, Sierra High School and Rondi Rembert, Donner Trail Elementary. The Star Award is given to recognize classified employees who positively impact the lives of the students by providing outstanding support in their positions. The recipients each received $1,000 for their personal use.
“It's nice to be honored and to know you make a difference in their (children's) lives,” said Cindy Maciel. “You see students as young adults in the community and you know you have helped make our community a better place to be.”
Nominations for both the Fellows and Star Awards come from students, parents and community members, as well as any TTUSD staff member. No self-nominations or those from Excellence in Education board members are accepted.
The Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization. The Foundation enhances public education within the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District to strengthen the learning experience for students. Each year Excellence in Education raises money and provides grants, resources and partnerships to benefit students, teachers and the educational community as a whole.
