The Wolverines swept six straight matches en route to winning the championship at the Carmichael (Calif.) Tournament this past weekend.
After 11 hours of playing in a sweltering gym, Truckee (14-2 overall) eventually defeated 4A Spanish Springs in two sets for the championship — avenging a loss against the Cougars the previous week.
Krysta Murphy led the Wolverines in passing during the tournament, with 76 passes, and Katie Mohun was second in passing with 70. Murphy had the most serves while Samantha Aubrey had the highest serve rating.
Jillian Akers led the team in service aces. Annie Reiswig had a team-high 39 kills, followed by Murphy's 22. Allison Costa had the most digs. Kiersten Knoppel led in blocking with 10 for the tournament, followed by Costa with seven. Akers had 74 setting assists and Brittany Thomas 13.
Truckee called up Samantha Aubrey from junior varsity to help fill out the team, as only seven varsity players were available for the tournament. Aubrey was a valuable addition to the team, said assistant coach Kim Thomas.
The Truckee JVs competed in the JV portion of the tournament, winning their pool in the morning before losing in bracket play in the afternoon.
