This course, “Sutrayana: The Life And Teachings Of The Buddha,” will begin Feb. 5, ending on May 21, 2014.
Join an exploration Buddha’s teachings through his life story and other parables. This course will benefit beginning and committed students. It provides a base of study and practice that will create a firm foundation for the serious practitioner, and a rich exploration for those new to Buddhism.
Meetings will consist of dharma talks and meditation periods, including two five-hour sessions.
The course will include the following core Buddhist teachings:
The Four Noble Truths
The Eight-fold Noble Path
The Twelve Nidanas
The Four Seals
Anapanasati (Mindfulness of Breath meditation)
Satipataba (The Four Foundations of Mindfulness)
You will practice both seated and walking meditation, focusing on development of Shamatha (meditative quiescence) and Vipassana (meditative insight) through the exploration of techniques taught in the Satipatana (Four Foundations of Mindfulness) and Anipanasati (Mindfulness of Breathing) Sutras.

Ryan has been a devoted student of Lama Tsultrim Allione for more than two decades and has studied and practiced Tibetan Buddhism for more than 25 years. She is an authorized teacher for Lama Tsultrim and leads the Truckee Tara Mandala Sangha. She has also studied under B. Alan Wallace, and received teachings from many Tibetan teachers including HH the Dalai Lama. She is a mother of three and has a thriving psychotherapy practice in Truckee and Reno, Nev.
Lindsay Fletcher Hardie, PhD, is a student of Lama Tsultrim who focuses her work and life on integrating the dharma with the practice of psychology.
