California Water Environment Association honors North Tahoe Public Utility District employees

KINGS BEACH, Calif. — North Tahoe Public Utility District employees took home top honors in a three categories at the annual California Water Environment Association (CWEA) – Sierra Section awards dinner at the North Tahoe Event Center on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014.

The CWEA’s mission is to enhance the education and effectiveness of California’s wastewater professional through training, certification, dissemination of technical information and promotion of sound policies to benefit society through protection and enhancement of the water environment.

North Tahoe Public Utility District employee’s receiving awards included: Chris Avery, Collection Person of the Year; David Berry, Electrical / Instrumentation Person of the Year; and Michael Thornton, Mechanical Technician of the Year. Janine Dougan, received the past president award for her five years of service to the Sierra Section.

Chris Avery, Operations Maintenance Worker II and David Berry, GIS and SCADA System Engineer have both been with the District for more than seven years. Michael Thornton is the Maintenance Technician Crew Chief and has been with the District for almost 14 years. Janine Dougan, Utility Operations Coordinator has been with the District for nearly seven years.

“We are pleased to see the hard work of the employees of the North Tahoe Public Utility District be recognized by their peers from CWEA,” said President of the Board of Director’s Lane Lewis. “These recognitions are not only an honor to the employees, but to the District as well. We appreciate the hard work of all of our employees.”


The North Tahoe Public Utility District provides sewer and water service to the residents of Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista, Carnelian Bay, Cedar Flat and Agate Bay. The District owns, manages and maintains the North Tahoe Regional Park in Tahoe Vista which provides recreation opportunities to residents and visitors. In addition, the District owns and/or maintains all of the public beaches in the District including Kings Beach State Recreation Area, Tahoe Vista Recreation Area, and Secline Beach to name just a few. The North Tahoe Event Center in downtown Kings Beach is also owned and managed by the District.
