Incline track | Nix, Cory, Colby top five at Fernley Invite

The Incline track and field team got in one final tune-up before the postseason at the Fernley Invitational on Saturday.

The meet was cut short, however, as extremely windy conditions caused a dust storm that halted the event during the girls 3,200-meter run.

Junior Will Cory posted the Highlanders’ top result, with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.91 seconds. Along with Ryan Eppolito, Conor Devine and Nick Barnard, Cory also was part of the 4x800 relay team that finished 12th in 10:29.69.

Matt Colby, a sophomore, placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.88 and also was eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.58.

Incline freshman Kaelan Pugh fared well in the field events. He finished 14th in the long jump, leaping 17-01.50, placed 29th in the discus (84-00) and was 39th in the shot put (29-08.25).

Junior hurdler Valeri Nix led the Incline girls. She recorded a sixth-place finish in the 100 hurdles, posting a personal-best time of 17.51, and was fifth in the 300 hurdles, in 54.91.

Senior Kate Ballan placed 16th in the 300 hurdles (1:05.56) and 26th in the 100 hurdles (20.42). She also was part of the 4x800 relay team, along with Sami Lampe, Stephanie Homola and Serena Singh, that placed seventh in 12:45.85.

Singh was 10th in the triple jump, recording a leap of 28-06, 14th in the 300 hurdles (1:04.14) and 23rd in the 100 hurdles (19.91). Lampi was 12th in the long jump with a jump of 13-05.
