Gatekeeper's 'Ursus Among Us' featured at Tahoe League for Charity

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — On Feb. 11 a dynamic speaker was featured at the monthly “Lunch and Speaker” series for Tahoe League for Charity at Jake’s on the Lake.

Marguerite Sprague, executive director at the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society, spoke about the Gatekeeper’s Museum the exhibit, “Ursus Among Us.”

The native California black bears of the Tahoe Basin are often in the news — you may have even met a few. This exhibit features replica black bear objects, videos of the bears in their wild state and detailed information of bear behavior. The museum gift shop offers a variety of children’s books with colorful and beautifully illustrated stories on black bears.

Sprague wrote a series about the history of mankind and black bears in Tahoe, a Sierra Sun feature in fall 2012. Click here for part one.
