Driver arrested after nearly colliding with deputy

Douglas County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 49-year-old South Lake Tahoe man on suspicion of drunken driving Saturday afternoon after he nearly struck a patrol vehicle on Kingsbury Grade, according to a deputy’s report.

The deputy was driving west on State Route 207 near Deer Run Court when the man, driving east in a Jeep Cherokee, swerved to avoid a turning car and nearly hit the deputy head-on, according to the report.

The deputy reported slamming on the patrol vehicle’s brakes and pulled over the shoulder to avoid the Jeep. The deputy made a U-turn and stopped the vehicle near Jupiter Drive. The driver was arrested and booked into Douglas County’s Stateline jail. A preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol content was 0.169 percent, more than twice the legal limit, according to the report.
