Up-and-coming funk band to play CBC's Red Room

Crystal Bay Casino will hold a “New Music Showcase” Thursday night, when the Main Squeeze plays a free show in the Red Room.

The Main Squeeze is Corey Frye (vocals), Ben Silverstein (keyboards), Max Newman (guitar), Reuben Gingrich (drums) and Jeremiah Hunt (bass).

The Main Squeeze formed in Bloomington, Ill. in 2009 while members attended the University of Illinois.

The group released its debut album in June. The self-titled record contains 12 original tracks and is available for purchase on the band’s website.

The Main Squeeze has garnered national and global recognition in recent years. In 2012, the group won an international battle of the bands in Macau, China and was also selected by Rolling Stone magazine to open for The Roots and Janes Addiction at the Super Bowl XLVI tailgate party in Indianapolis, according to the group’s website.

The Main Squeeze recently caught the attention of Randy Jackson of “American Idol” fame. The group will head to Los Angeles in June to work with Jackson on its next recording project, band manager Michael Morrison wrote in an email.

“Much like each member’s varied backgrounds and influences, the album itself contains an eclectic blend of inspiration which seamlessly navigates through funk, rock, electro, and jazz, while still rooting itself in something that’s uniquely their own,” according to the band’s website.
