New president named for Truckee/Tahoe teachers union

A Truckee High School alumni and former Wolverine football quarterback, Nik Fertitta, who now teaches government and economics at the school, was recently elected as the new president for the Tahoe Truckee Education Association, according to the organization.

Laurie Scheibner, a math and science teacher at Alder Creek Middle School, also was recently elected as the new treasurer for TTEA.

“Both of them are outstanding educators and have great respect from their colleagues, students and parents in the district,” according to the union. “TTEA is confident that the association, under their guidance, will continue down the positive path laid down by its former executive officers: Jon Halvorsen, Ed Hilton, Trent Kirschner and Jill Zapata.”

TTEA is the local teachers union in Tahoe-Truckee, representing about 250 certificated educators in the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. It is an affiliate of the California Teachers Association which represents over 300,000 educators from across CA. TTEA/CTA members are also members of the National Education Association representing more than 3 million educators nationwide.
