Tahoe City celebrates summer solstice

Tahoe City will mark the official start of summer will a weekend-long celebration. The Tahoe City Solstice Festival kicks off June 20, the day before the solstice, and will run through June 23.

Starting the festival is the Solstice Stroll Classic Car Show. Dozens of vintage automobiles from Alfa Romeos to classic Fords and Chevrolets, line both sides of Tahoe City’s downtown street. Attendees to the free event are encouraged to cast their vote for their favorite car.

Following the car show, the Bridgetender Fireworks Fundraiser Street Dance will begin at Tahoe City’s Bridgetender and parade down to the famous Fanny Bridge. The event features live music, dinner and drink specials and a street party atmosphere. The event is free and a portion of proceeds from the Bridgetender will go to benefit the Tahoe City Independence Day fireworks fund.

On June 22, the Tahoe City Wine Walk will saunter through town. Attendees will shop and sip their way along Tahoe City’s sidewalks. Bites and wine samples will be offered along the way. Tickets are $35 before the event and $45 on the day of the event.

The final shebang will be the opening of Concerts at Commons Beach. Local musician Trey Stone, with opening band Drop Theory, will play to beachgoers from 3-7 p.m. All Concerts at Commons Beach events are free.
