TRUCKEE, Calif. — Town residents will soon see an increase in their solid waste service fee.
On June 11, Truckee Town Council unanimously approved the increase of the residential solid waste fee from $252.80 to $263.48 for the 2013-14 fiscal year, effective July 1.
A major factor for the increase is due to the popularity of the town’s green waste program, said Nichole Dorr, recycling coordinator.
“We’re on target to do about 7,200 green bags,” she said. “That’s somewhat in line with what we were seeing from last year. However, the program has grown over the past couple years.
“The way we see costs growing is kind of on a per-bag type charge, so the more bags that are left out, the more costly the program.”
Three letters of protest were received by the town regarding the fee increase prior to a public hearing, followed by council’s vote.
This new fee will be reflected on property owners’ tax bill.
The same motion also approved a 1.24 percent commercial solid waste service rate increase, to be reflected on direct hauling bills.
