There are so many activities to enjoy at Tahoe. Often residents and visitors alike try to do so much in a day, especially the holidays.
There are great natural attractions and many business and community functions. It would be too bad to ruin a great time by getting worn down or worse by the accumulation of heat and sun exposure.
To make the most of your Tahoe Time, plan ahead and be prepared. A hectic schedule and all the sights and sounds can be enticing. Think through the pace you’ll set and the locations.
Can you get out of the heat and sun, can you bring along some shade whether it is an umbrella or a wide brim hat. Being aware of the conditions will help you plan.
Try to include some rest. That includes periods of inactivity, food and hydration. If you are in the sun, use plenty of sunscreen and reapply it, especially if you been in the water.
Drink water and stay hydrated ahead of and during any exertion. Be aware of the capabilities of each member of your party. Some may have more stamina than others.
Plan around the least, not the most fit, person in your group. You’ll have more fun if the group can stay together and all participate.
If you are from a lower elevation, you will want to acclimate to the altitude. Time is the best solution for acclimation.
Many find hydration is also a key. Consider how far into the backcountry you should go, given the preparation and supplies you can assemble.
Even when going to the beach or walking around the community, take along water, know the distance you will travel and assess are you ready. Many think they can drive up to locations.
At holiday times, you may find you are parking quite a distance from a venue and having to carry your belongings. This can add to the fatigue and raises frustration or anxiety, even before the fun starts. Plan to stick to what you reasonably can do to enjoy your time at Tahoe.
Our weather at Tahoe is one of many blue sky days and cooler temperatures than the desert and valleys that surround us. The altitude and enticement to do more with each trip can lull you into trying to do too much. Make the most of your Tahoe Time, but keep it fun and safe by planning ahead and taking good care of yourself. You can always come back again another time.
