East Shore run set for Saturday
The 39th Annual Ponderosa Ridge Run will head out from the Spooner Summit Maintenance Station on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. The free, 9.5-mile, point-to-point race course weaves runners along a dirt trail that will lead runners to a finish line near Kingsbury Grade. All racers will receive survivor ribbons and cold drinks. Runners should be prepared for steep hills and no aid stations. Laker Legends basketball camp
The Laker Legends Summer Youth Basketball Camp will return to North Tahoe High School from July 17-19. The camp is for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 16, and will focus on individual skills, shooting, ball handling, passing and dribbling. North Tahoe varsity head coach Frank Wright, assistants Paul Joslin and Matt Axton, and Lakers players will lead the instruction. Camp times are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $60. Truckee football party for Bob Shaffer
A celebration party for longtime Truckee football coach Bob Shaffer, who retired in February after 18 years leading the Wolverines, will be held at the Truckee River Regional Park amphitheater on Saturday, July 20. The event, called the Truckee Football Foundation Party, is a fundraiser. Tickets will be available soon.
Start Haus offering free weekly stand-up paddleboard races
The Start Haus and the Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District are hosting free stand-up paddle board races at Donner Lake’s West End Beach every Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., weather permitting. The weekly races, with boards provided by the Start Haus, will continue throughout the summer, with men’s, women’s and children’s categories, as well as giveaways at each event. Stand-up paddleboard workouts
CrossFit Avalanche, CrossFit Blizzard and Waterman’s Landing have partnered for a third season to offer Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) Workouts three times per week through early September. The hour-long workouts will take place at Waterman’s Landing in Carnelian Bay, and will be led by CrossFit Level 1 certified trainer Anik Demers-Wild. Classes will be held Mondays at 9:30 a.m., Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m., and Fridays at 4:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to wear clothing and shoes they can work out in and also get wet. The cost to participate is $20 per session for non-members, and is included in the cost of membership for CrossFit Avalanche and CrossFit Blizzard athletes. Paddleboards are provided. Open water mini clinics on Tahoe
Boost Swimming is offering weekly open water mini clinics on the Ironman Lake Tahoe course for those interested in improving their technique and building confidence swimming in open water. Weekly open water weekly clinics will take place at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. every Friday through Sept. 27, and will be led by Open Water National Champion and former USA Swimming National Team Coach Jeff Pearson. The clinics are geared toward participants of varying abilities, whether competing in the Ironman or training for their first triathlon. The inaugural session is free of charge. Cost of subsequent sessions is $20 per session. Boost Swimming will also offer a half-day freestyle clinic on June 29 at the Incline Village Recreation Center.
