Large field of locals to compete in Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs

Come 5 a.m. Saturday, more than 600 athletes — 40 from the Lake Tahoe and Truckee area — will embark on one of three distances in the Tahoe Rim Trail 50K/50M/100M Endurance Runs.

Among the large Tahoe contingent, 16 are signed up for the 50-kilomter run, while 15 are registered for the 50-miler and another nine will take on the 100-mile distance.

The locals fared well a year ago. Truckee’s Jenelle Potvin finished third among women in her first-ever attempt at a 100-mile race, while Peter Fain of Truckee finished second overall in the 50-mile run.

Rachel Barth of Incline Village was the top woman in last year’s 50K, while Annie Rutledge of Truckee was the second woman, Ross McMahan of Incline was second overall and Jamie Adams of Kings Beach was third overall. All are slated to race this weekend.

The Tahoe Rim Trail 50K/50M/100M Endurance Runs start and end at Spooner Lake State Park. The 100-mile course record remains 17:47, set by Thomas Crawford in 2010.
