Shake your stuff with Drop Theory in Truckee park

Funk band Drop Theory wants you to throw up your arms and shake your body, and you have the chance to do just that when they play this week at the Truckee River Regional Park’s amphitheater.

Drop Theory, based out of the North Shore and Truckee area, will play a free concert July 31 as part of the Summer Music Concert Series. This is its third year performing at this favorite Tahoe summer spot, an event put on by the Truckee Donner Recreation & Park District.

Drop Theory has been shaking booties around the North Tahoe area since 2008. Their live shows feature recognizable covers from artists such as Talking Heads and James Brown, a few originals and a handful of B-side covers. The band’s main interest is taking influences from all sorts of genres like classic rock, hip-hop and jazz and using those to create fun, upbeat dance music. The lineup features J Pinard (sax and lead vocals), Peter Kowalczyk (guitar), Mike Zucker (guitar), Isaac Freed (bass) and Alex Dobbs (drums).

The band cites the Truckee amphitheater as possibly their favorite venue because of its beautiful setting and the fun crowds that show up. “There’s nothing we love more than playing funky music for our friends to dance to,” guitarist Peter said in a press release.
