Tahoe Forest Health System announces specials for Breast Health Awareness Month

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — October is National Breast Health Awareness Month, an initiative created to increase awareness of early detection and prevention of breast cancer.

If you’ve never had a mammogram, call Tahoe Forest Health System during October for an appointment and take advantage of a special offer. Women scheduling first-time mammograms during the month of October will receive a free gift. If you’ve already had your mammogram, but refer a friend who is a first-timer, you will both receive a free gift. There will also be a drawing to win a free mammogram.

Mammograms and monthly self-checks are the most effective methods for detecting breast cancer early. A mammogram is a quick and easy procedure performed by a certified mammography technologist and interpreted by a board certified radiologist.

A doctor’s order is not required for a screening mammogram. The Briner Imaging Center at Tahoe Forest Hospital offers state-of-the-art digital mammography. Follow up care is available through local physicians.

Physician referrals are not necessary to schedule a screening mammogram, and most insurance plans are accepted. To schedule, call Tahoe Forest Hospital’s Briner Imaging Center at 530-582-6510.

Funding is available for a limited number of screenings through a special grant made available by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Call 530-582-3277 for eligibility details.
