Tahoe Flying Club takes off, Oct. 2 meeting scheduled

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — A group of local aviators have joined together to create the Tahoe Flying Club (TFC). What started from an informal presentation at the Truckee EAA pancake breakfast last spring has coalesced into a formal social club, incorporated as a nonprofit, for the purpose of increasing access to aviation in the community.

“Flying clubs are a popular way pilots group together to acquire and fly aircraft, something this airport and region have been lacking,” said Matt Michael, temporary chairman. “In addition, they help make the activity relatively affordable and increase the availability of aircraft to fly.”

The club wants everyone to know all interested aviators and aviation enthusiasts are welcomed to the monthly meetings, the next of which is set for Wednesday, Oct. 2, 7 p.m. at the Truckee Tahoe Airport, 10356 Truckee Airport Road, Truckee.

With the advisement of airport management, the “proto” club has been meeting and forming for the last five months. The momentum carried them through some of the more difficult organizational parts.

“Once we knew there was enough interest we started in on the process, an Internet presence, phone number and address, so we could get the message out and attract more people,” said Robert Bousquet, temporary communications board member.

You can engage with the newly formed club by liking their Facebook page Tahoe Flying Club, email info@tahoeflyingclub.org or call 530-378-4832.

Look for the Tahoe Flying Club to be a part of this community at local events and at the airport in general. “We hope to have an excellent reputation as a well-run organization, satisfying a need at the airport while contributing to the quality of life in the Lake Tahoe region,” said Michael. Formal membership in the Tahoe Flying Club will have no pre-requisite to join; however only current, properly rated pilots will be able to fly club aircraft.
