The Truckee volleyball team clinched the Northern Division I-A’s No. 2 playoff seed with a pair of home wins over Elko and Spring Creek on Thursday and Friday.
The Wolverines swept past both league opponents, defeating Elko 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 before routing Spring Creek 25-7, 25-13, 25-9 on senior farewell Friday night.
With one match remaining in the regular season, against visiting South Tahoe on Friday, Truckee improved to 13-2 in divisional play, with both losses coming against first-place Dayton (15-0).
Elko, which fell to 9-5, had already secured a playoff berth, while Lowry (8-6) and South Tahoe (6-8) were battling for the fourth and final regional seed entering their Tuesday night matches.
Truckee needed five games to get by the Indians in Elko on Sept. 27. That was not the case the second time around.
Sporting pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness, seniors Mackenzie Redner and Lauren Peak led an efficient offensive attack, as Redner pounded 18 kills and Peak 11. Redner added three blocks and 22 digs, while Peak had 13 digs and 11 service points.
Truckee senior setter Chelsea Mohun fed her teammates with killable balls all night, finishing with 32 assists. Anais Fay and Becca Berelson finished with four kills each, and Elizabeth Costa and Tori Simpson each had six digs.
With fewer points to work with in the lopsided win over Spring Creek, Redner tallied 10 kills and Peak nine kills, while Taylor Stevens and Katherine Englert each had three kills. Stevens, Redner and Peak had two service aces apiece, Katie Fisher had two blocks, Redner had 11 digs, and Mohun had 19 assists.
The Wolverines honored the following seniors Friday night: Redner, Peak, Mohun, Berelson, Costa and Heather Lade.
Truckee will host South Tahoe on Friday at 6 p.m. to end the regular season. The second-seeded Wolverines will then play the No. 3 seed, likely Elko, in the regional tournament on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. The regional tournament site remains undecided, said NIAA Assistant Director Donnie Nelson, who added that the league will vote on a site in the next few days.
