CARNELIAN BAY, Calif. — Gar Woods fireworks raises cash for sports programs
On Friday, Oct. 11 Gar Woods Grill & Pier in Carnelian Bay celebrated 25 years of serving Wet Woodys, fun and great food all with a view of Lake Tahoe. Owner Tom Turner reminisced about the good times with great staff, past and present, and the wonderful guests who have continued to come through the doors.
Gar Woods is very grateful to the community of Lake Tahoe for the past 25 years of support. It was with this gratitude in mind that Turner was proud to accomplish a long-term goal of celebrating Labor Day with a bang in Carnelian Bay. In partnership with the Monte Foundation and Deluxe Foods of Aptos, Gar Woods put on an inaugural fireworks show for Labor Day in Carnelian Bay. Even with the Yosemite Rim Fire doing its best to keep people out of the basin, more than 1,000 guests came out to enjoy the incredible fireworks show. Thank you to all who came out and we look forward to having you back every year for a show on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend!
After the dust and smoke settled and the final donations came in, Gar Woods and the Monte Foundation had raised $14,000 to support North Tahoe sports programs. Scott Conn, varsity head coach of the Incline Village football team and Deanne Myers, president of North Tahoe Boosters came out on a windy fall day to accept checks made out to their programs. “The community really comes forward in these times and helps us keep sports in North Tahoe,” wrote Deanne in a gracious note to Gar Woods. The 25-year-old restaurant is grateful to be part of the community and excited to be starting a Labor Day tradition on the North Shore.
