LUNA Chix donates to Breast Cancer Fund

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Topping off a successful season, the Tahoe LUNA Chix organization received a $1,000 check from Big Blue Adventures in November.

The donation, presented to the team for its involvement in a number of Big Blue events helped push the Chix’s fundraising efforts to a season total of $2,927.70. As part of the team’s mission statement, this money will be sent to the Breast Cancer Fund, a national organization committed to exposing and eliminating the environmental causes of breast cancer.

“We are ecstatic to be involved with Big Blue Adventures. This partnership helped us surpass our Fundraising goals,” said team leader Kim Larson. “We appreciate all of the donations made to the Breast Cancer Fund this season from the local community and all of the riders who came out to take part in our rides and events — without all of you this would not be possible!”

In addition to its partnership with Big Blue, the Tahoe LUNA Chix would like to thank Vail Resorts for hosting two of the Tahoe LUNA Chix’s well-attended instructional Cross Country Mountain Bike Skills Clinics, local Olympian and LUNA Pro Katerina Nash and Teal Stetson-Lee for leading the clinics, Girls on the Run for partnering with the Tahoe LUNA Chix to host and run their annual LUNAFest fundraising event in March, and its participants who donated more than $850 this season at Tahoe LUNA sponsored rides and clinics.

The Tahoe LUNA Chix is a community mountain biking group dedicated to empowering and connecting women around outdoor, physical activity.

Each summer the Chix host a number of free community rides, instructional clinics, and events such as the Ladies-Only Mountain Bike Race at Northstar. Through its women-only rides, the group aims to promote health, wellness, and camaraderie.

The team receives sponsorship and support from LUNA Bar, the whole nutrition bar for women, which helps to organize more than two dozen community teams nationwide as well as a professional racing team.
