James Michael Valero, who is suspected of burglary and elder abuse, was arrested shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
According to South Lake Tahoe police Lt. Brian Williams, Valero, 27, was found walking along Fourth Street, near the apartment complex where the alleged crime occurred.
Valero reportedly followed a 92-year-old apartment manager into his residence Tuesday night, shoved him and tried to stop him from calling the police.
The apartment manager, a World War II veteran who walks with the assistance of a cane, discovered Valero trespassing in the laundry room of the apartment complex on the 1100 block of Third Street.
The apartment manager has dealt with Valero trespassing on the property before, according to South Lake Tahoe police.
The manager confronted Valero and told him he was going to call the police. Valero allegedly responded by the following the man back to his apartment, forcing his way inside and shoving him twice, which hurt the man’s knee.
Valero then forcibly pulled the phone away from the man and fled the area on foot, the apartment manager told police.
Valero has been booked into jail on preliminary charges of burglary, trespassing, elder abuse and dissuading or preventing a witness from reporting a crime.
