Charlie Brown, retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel who came within 9,000 votes of unseating Congressman John Doolittle, was in Tahoe when Dagmar and Ray Dolby (he’s the inventor of the Dolby noise reduction system) hosted a gathering/fundraiser last August for the likely 2008 Fourth Congressional district Democratic nominee.

Brown drew about 60 supporters to the cocktail party. He made a few remarks to guests and answered questions. Brown’s 26 years in the US Air Force serving as a rescue helicopter and reconnaissance pilot was a surprise to some. The Brown campaign has donated nearly $5,000 of its campaign contributions to area charities serving local veterans and victims of the Angora Fire. Brown announced he has committed 5 percent of what he raises in this campaign to veterans’ aftercare charities.

Brown has broadened his spectrum of support including that of former Tahoe City resident and dynamo Joanne Neft who last year founded “Republicans for Charlie Brown.”

Some of those supporting Charlie Brown at the gathering were Annette and Fred Gellert, Barbara Brown, Betsy and Bob Bingham, Arville “Sisi” and Burt Damner, Peggy and Reid Dennis, Steve Merrill, Sue and Rod Bushnell of San Francisco, Dick Whitacker, Michael Linnett, Ben O’Brien, Nancy and Baxter Moyer, Debbie Macrorie (of Christy Hill) and husband Greg Dorland, Nancy Latimer and Mickey Gray of Soda Springs, Jane and Jack Bogart, Jennifer Montgomery and Daniel Gomez, Mary and Richard Lonergan, Tom McMann, Candice Taylor, Nancy Foster, Barbara Green of Truckee, Theresa May Duggan, Jennifer Ferris, Marti and Ray O’Brien.

Snow cancels race

Last weekend’s snow canceled an extreme green motor race that Tahoe Mountain Club had scheduled over Old Highway 40. The reception at Coyote Moon was a winner.

Some of those champs included Gerry and Cass (of Joe’s Coffee) Rodriquez, East West honcho Roger Lessman, Susan and Neil Cunningham, Brinn Wellise of Switchback PR, Placer County film commissioner Beverly Lewis, Norm Saylor, Josh Smith and Justin Swett.

Transitions

Long-time Homewood homeowner and former Tahoe Yacht Club Commodore Howard Turner passed away last Sunday. He will be sorely missed. Sincere condolences go out to wife Kay and family. The family asks donations may be sent to the Lake Tahoe Maritime Museum or to the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society.
