While Halloween night passed uneventfully throughout much of the Tahoe-Truckee area, a Kings Beach man was flown to Reno for treatment of knife wounds he received outside a Halloween party in Kings Beach
Elifonso Aguilar, 28, was transported by Careflight late Wednesday to Reno’s Renown Medical Center, where he underwent surgery Thursday morning. Accounts of the altercation were conflicting, according to Placer County authorities.
When a fight broke out in the street in front of a party on Trout Avenue around 11:30 p.m., the 28-year-old Aguilar was stabbed three times, once in the arm and twice in the torso, said Placer County Sheriffs Detective Sgt. Corie Quillinan.
Investigators have not determined how many were involved in the fight or what caused the confrontation, Quillinan said.
Aguilar is doing much better since the surgery, Quillinan said. His injuries are not life-threatening.
The investigation is ongoing. Placer County Sheriff’s officials are asking eyewitnesses to come forward with any information about the incident.
“We’re looking for people who saw what happened,” Quillinan said.
Quillinan said deputies have interviewed several persons, but their stories don’t match.
Deputies initially arrested three suspects, but later released them because “the information was conflicting,” said Sheriffs Capt. Jeff Granum.
No suspect is currently in custody.
While Placer Sheriff’s personnel are actively investigating the case, they “are not completely sure what the circumstances are yet,” according to Granum.
Investigators are sifting through preliminary information, he said.
No further information on the case was available.
The stabbing occurred just days after Truckee resident Charles Coogan Kelly was shot and killed at a Halloween party early Sunday in Reno. Two others were also slain in the shooting, which police say started with shoving on the dance floor.
Washoe County authorities filed three counts of murder Wednesday against Samisoni Taukitoku, one of two suspects arrested afterward.
In Truckee, Halloween was “pretty much uneventful,” said California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Skeen, “which is always nice.”
Dispatchers for the California Highway Patrol received a call about the Kings Beach party at 11:27 p.m. Wednesday, Skeen said. Patrol officers did not respond because Placer County Sheriff’s deputies reported the situation was under control.
The Highway Patrol arrested two suspects on suspicion of driving under the influence on Halloween, and another for allegedly being drunk in public.
Since Halloween was on a weekday this year, the holiday was less busy than in other years, Skeen said.
Since Friday, Oct. 26, Highway Patrol officers have arrested 13 people — 11 of whom were charged with driving under the influence.
Placer Sheriff’s deputies arrested one person Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence.
