ROSEVILLE (AP) Placer County's Republican Central Committee has voted to endorse conservative state Senator Tom McClintock, who is running to replace retiring Congressman John Doolittle.
Committee members announced the endorsement on Thursday, saying McClintock understands their desire to control government spending.
McClintock, who represents a Southern California district in the state Senate, has promised to move to the district if he wins the June primary and November general election.
Doolittle's district stretches from Sacramento to the Oregon border.
A spokesman for his main Republican opponent moderate former Congressman
Doug Ose of Sacramento dismisses the endorsement.
Ose spokesman Doug Elmets says the central committee represent the Republican Party's right-wing fringe.
