Colorful masks, self portraits and body cutouts made by local children and students ages 4 through 18 was put on display by Tahoe Women’s Services at KidZone Wednesday to celebrate the value of children during Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The art was made in February and March by children at the KidZone, Early Head Start in Kings Beach, Tahoe Women’s Services groups and Sierra High School students with the theme, “I am fabulous.”
Most of the art was made by children who were not victims of abuse, but some were, said Jessica Linn, children’s program manager for Tahoe Women’s Services. For these children, creating the art can be very therapeutic Linn said.
“We use art a lot in our program as an expressive tool for kids who have been victims or witnessed abuse. It’s non-threatening (to make art),” she said.
The art will be on display at KidZone for a week and will then move to the Joseph’s Center in Truckee and then to Sierra Mountain Education Center.
