Trinkie Watson said she joined the board of directors for the Lake Tahoe Music Festival more than 20 years ago for the love of the arts.
“I think music is such a catalyst,” Watson said. “It crosses all ages and all backgrounds. Everyone loves music — not everyone always likes the exact same kind, but everyone loves music. It’s such a wonderful part of our lives.”
And since Watson has taken the reins of the festival, she’s seen it impact more people with more diverse music.
“We’ve really grown in the last couple of years,” Watson said. “Last year, especially, we jumped by leaps and bounds. We had fabulous entertainment. We increased ticket sales and we increased our member base, which really helped raise the bar.”
Last year the festival came back to the West Shore with concerts at the Homewood Mountain Resort. And Kenny Loggins’ performance appealed to a wider audience. That’s the direction Watson hopes the festival will continue to go. She said she hopes to build the festival so it will be sustained for the future.
“I think being back on the West Shore has really given us another boost,” Watson said.
The music festival is not the only leadership role Watson, the Realtor who opened the first California Chase office in Tahoe City in 1989, maintains in the community. She also sits on the board for the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation.
“I considered it a huge honor to be asked to be a part of that board,” Watson said.
A local since 1966, Watson said she volunteers for the music festival and the community foundation to give back.
“It’s fun to be part of the community,” Watson said. “The community serves my business and it’s fun to be able to give some time and give something back.”
