The Truckee High baseball team secured the Northern 3A’s No. 3 playoff seed and opening-round homefield advantage when Fernley defeated Sparks 10-9 on Wednesday.
It’ll be the first time the Wolverines have made the postseason since they finished third in state in 2004.
Truckee (12-6) will host fourth-seeded Sparks (9-7) — which has two more regular-season games against Fernley (3-13) — on Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10, in a best-of-three series.
Friday’s game starts at 3 p.m. and the first game on Saturday starts at 10 a.m. If necessary, a third game will be played immediately following.
The winner advances to the 3A State Championship tournament, which will be held at both the University of Nevada, Reno and Western Nevada Community College on May 16-17.
Truckee head coach Mike Ellis said he called up four players from junior varsity — Ryan Zusy, Jordan Diero, Matt Theis and Brian Matthew.
Depending on the final weekend of league play — all teams play on this weekend except Truckee — either Dayton or Spring Creek will be the No. 1 seed from the north.
