North Tahoe golf team qualifies for state championship

The North Tahoe golf team took second place in the Northern 2A Zone Tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course on Wednesday.

The top-3 finish out of eight teams qualified the Lakers for the Nevada 2A State Championship, which will be held at Needles on May 12-13.

North Tahoe posted a team score of 477. Whittell won the tournament with a 438, and Battle Mountain rounded out the top 3 with a score of 499.

Non-qualifying teams included Hawthorne (508), Jackpot (566), Wells (589), Sage Ridge (597) and ROP (659).

Individually for the Lakers, Travis Boerner led the team and was fourth in the tournament with a 90. Alec Griffith shot a 92, followed by Kevin Scardigli (94), Dan Longo (97), Craig Munro (104) and Sean Lovely (107).

Cookie Szendrey of Whittell was the tournament medalist, shooting an 84 on his home course.
