(AP) - The wreckage of an airplane belonging to a missing Truckee pilot was found Saturday in a heavily-forested area about 25 miles north of the Truckee-Tahoe Airport.
Nevada County sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Pettitt says a body found in the wreckage near Sierraville has not been positively identified but the victim is believed to be 37-year-old Clayton Beck.
Members of the Civil Air Patrol sighted what appeared to be aircraft debris
east of Sierraville late Saturday morning. Investigators from the Sierra
County Sheriff¹s Office, assisted by Nevada County Sheriff¹s investigators
and the California Highway Patrol, reached the wreckage at about 2:45 p.m.
Saturday.
Pettitt says Beck left Truckee Tahoe Airport on Wednesday afternoon for a short flight around the Truckee area in his single-engine, two-seater RV-6 experimental aircraft.
He had planned to make a meeting later that afternoon in Reno, and was reported missing that night by his wife, Lisa Beck.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration.
