Storms could bring lightning strikes

No fire watches have been issued, but isolated thunderstorms that could produce lightning strikes are expected in Nevada County’s high Sierra through Thursday afternoon.

Summer lightning strikes often cause wildfires in the Sierra, sometimes breaking into major blazes like those seen across Northern California during June and July.

However, this system is nowhere near as menacing as the front that produced more than 800 lightning fires June 21 in the north state.
