Aristotle once said Those who educate children well are more to be honored than parents.
Friday, Sept. 12, at its annual recognition event, the Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation honored the school districts best teachers and support staff, recognized its generous donors, celebrated the foundations accomplishments, and proudly showcased with displays the many grants it funded this past fiscal year.
More than 200 people gathered at Northstar-at-Tahoe for the celebration. Guests enjoyed heavy hors doeuvres and a no host bar, while socializing on the villages Overlook Patio.
Three programs: Dining for Schools, Golfing for Schools and Skiing for Schools help fund the foundation, which last year funded a total of $262,000 in grants for TTUSD programs.
Partners in these programs were recognized for their help in raising much needed funds for these grants.
Those businesses recognized were Squaw Valley USA, Old Brockway Golf Course, Tahoe City Golf Course, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Resort at Squaw Creek, Sugar Bowl, Tahoe Donner Association, Tahoe Mountain Club, Alpine Meadows and Homewood.
The evening culminated with an electrifying performance by members of the North Tahoe High School Jazz Band. The award-winning band received a $25,000 grant from the foundation last year and the talented musicians brought down the house with their performance. Plumas Bank graciously underwrote the evenings event.
Some of those in attendance who value the role of education in our community included Ann and Roger Beck, Lisa Dobey of the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation and Debbie Cole, Linda and David Brown, school Superintendent Steve Jennings and wife Janice, David and Regina Curry, Leslie and Tim Silva, Debbie Casey, Tom Murphy, Bill and Kathrin Hudson, Kathleen Gauthier, Shirley and Don Hale, Emily and Ron Farrell, Pat Gibbons-Johnson, Bill Johnson, TTUSD Trustees Nancy Gisko and Kristi Olk, Phyllis McConn, Michelle Larson, Arts for the Schools Executive Director Melanie Kaufman, Beence and John Loomis, Northstars Julie Maurer and husband Dave Schotzko, Lil and Don Schaller, Kane and Aimee Schaller, Teresa Rensch, Anne Shipley, artist Cathee Van Rossem St. Clair, Don and Hale Carr, Phebe Bell, and Laura Abbey Brown.
