The North Tahoe and Truckee cross country teams returned this past weekend from their respective State Championships in Boulder City, Nev.
All classes ran a 5-kilometer race.
North Tahoes boys posted the best finish, placing second as a team behind only Sierra Lutheran, which took the championship with an average time of 17:48.98. The Laker boys trailed by about a minute, posting an average time of 18:51.81.
Individually, Hugo Ramirez led the Lakers with a 12th-place finish in 18:45.02. Wade Meddles of Sierra Lutheran dominated the race to capture first place with a time of 16:13.19.
Carson Clark followed closely behind Ramirez, finishing 13th in 18:48.26. They were followed by Luke Funicella (15th, 18:54.94), Tom McElravey (16th, 18:55.31) and Miles Heapes (17th, 18:55.52). Griffin Lancaster was 31st in 20:16.39, and John Baker 35th in 20:39.55.

The Lakers placed third behind Sage Ridge (22:57.27) and Laughlin (23:34.83) with an average time of 23:55.83.Sierra Postler led North Tahoe runners with a fifth-place finish in 22:07.11. Claire Kelley of Sage Ridge set the standard with a time of 21:04.24.
Behind Postler were teammates Maiya Greenwood (13th, 23:26.16), Carlie Postler (19th, 24:04.72), Amber Postler (24th, 24:57.10), Nicole Ramm (26th, 25:04.05), Julia Levy (33rd, 25:48.96), and Cassidy Curtin (37th, 27:04.84).
Truckee girls
Lowrys girls took the top spot as a team with an average time of 23:47.49. Spring Creek was second, Faith Lutheran third and Truckee fourth in 24:46.94.The Truckee girls did not come home without hardware, however, as the Wolverines were awarded the 3A Academic State Championship for highest collective grade-point average.
In the 5,000-meter run, Hanna Casares raced to an eighth-place finish with a time of 23:43.38. Keely Bakken of Faith Lutheran was first in 20:57.19.
Casares was followed by teammates Heather Mort (11th, 24:01.08), Carly Clusserath (13th, 24:20.83), Annie Rodriguez (21st, 25:37.15), Brooke Griffin (27th, 26:12.23), Fenja Haas (33rd, 26:39.18), and Kayla Cole (46th, 37:15.91).
Truckee boys
In the 3A boys race, Lowry captured the title with an average time of 18:30.74, while Truckee finished sixth in 21:14.85. Tyler Brooks led the Wolverines with a 20th-place finish in 19:31.44. He was followed by teammates Kevin Lufkin (41st, 21:17.83), Kyle Jorgensen (42nd, 21:20.95), Nik Ratiner (43rd, 21:25.83) and Zeke Vandehei (48th, 22:46.43).
