Long-time Truckee resident and professional ski instructor David Achey was recently named the new general manager for Royal Gorge Cross-Country Ski Resort, Ice Lakes Lodge and the historic Rainbow Lodge, according to resort officials.

Achey most recently managed Homewood Mountain Resort and before that was area manager for Soda Springs Ski Area. He has also served as assistant ski school director for Sugar Bowl. Achey has been involved with winter sports most of his life and has lived in Truckee for 24 years with his wife Suzanne and twin daughters.

“I grew up in Vermont, and I’ve been dedicated to skiing and snow sports my entire life,” said Achey. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lead one of North America’s best and largest ski resorts. I look forward to building a great team and providing an unrivaled ski experience.”

resort services manager also added

Sue Whitaker has joined the Royal Gorge management team as Ice Lakes Lodge and Rainbow Lodge manager. Whitaker brings years of experience in marketing, hotel and casino management. Also new on the Royal Gorge management team are Rainbow Lodge executive chef Nick Atkins, a graduate of the well-known La Verne Academie d’Art Culinaire in Paris, France, and Pat Matava, new Royal Gorge resort services manager.

Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort, Rainbow Lodge, and Ice Lakes Lodge will operate Thursday through Monday most of the winter season, and seven days per week during holiday periods.
