New publisher named at Tahoe Daily Tribune

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Mary Jurkonis has been named Tahoe Daily Tribune publisher.

Jurkonis replaces Gail Powell-Acosta, who has left the newspaper. Sierra Nevada Media Group General Manager Scott McElhaney made the announcement to Tribune staff Wednesday.

“I appreciate all that Gail’s done at the Tribune and wish her well,” McElhaney said.

Jurkonis, who begins her new duties Dec. 9, currently is publisher at the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza in Incline Village. She has held a number of management positions with Sierra Nevada Media Group during the past decade, including publisher of the Reno.com and Tahoe.com websites and advertising director at the Nevada Appeal in Carson City.

She formerly worked for several Bay Area newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle.

“Mary has a strong community newspaper background and I have a lot of confidence she will do well in her new role at the Tribune,” McElhaney said.

Sierra Nevada Media Group includes the Sierra Sun and Tahoe World.
