Truckee's KidZone offers education, fun classes

The KidZone Museum offers a colorful pallette of classes and exhibits. Activities are designed to engage the “minds, muscles and imaginations” of the children with interactive, multi-dimensional experiences. Read on to for what’s happening this winter:

Friday Night Art Jam: Fridays, 6 to 8:30 p.m., ages 6 to 11, $20 a class; $15 for second sibling, teachers Alanna Hughes and Aimee Had. Improve art skills and set student imaginations free with Riverside Studios. Five awesome art experiences. Pizza and fruit served. Details call Riverside 587-3789.

Club Amiguitos: Mondays, 10 to 11:30 a.m. or 1 to 2:30 p.m. Ages 3-5, (parents need not attend), free, teacher Lynne Brady. Together with the State preschool, children will participate in art, science, reading and music activities in Spanish and in English. Taught in conjunction with the State preschool teachers. This preschool program is sponsored by Nevada County School Readiness. Space is limited. Must pre-register.

Messy Art — Colors and Creations: Tuesday, 10 to 11 a.m., ages 1to 6, (parents must attend), $40 per session, punch card $6/class if space is available, teacher Elizabeth Bell. Have you ever spread cool, smooth finger-paint across a cookie sheet? Have you ever melted crayons on a warming tray? Come let the creativity flow. Limited to eight children.

Hands-On Science Club, Science of the Season: Tuesdays, 4 to 5 p.m., first through third graders, $25 per month, teacher Lynne Brady. Children will explore the strength of air, what makes the colors of the day, have fun with static electricity, building construction and magnetization. Sign up now as space is limited.

Messy Science — Water and Wonders: Wednesday, 10 to 11 a.m., ages 2 to 6 (parents must attend), $40 session, punch card $6/class if space is available, teacher Brooke Landis. Experiment with water, ice, snow, gak, oobleck, chemistry, colors. Children will freely explore three hands-on science centers each week. Open-ended activities. Parents experience new discoveries with their child. Limited to eight children.

Wonder Science — Earth Investigation: Lunch, Science & Play, Wednesdays, noon to 2 p.m. or Fridays, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Ages 4 to 6 (parents need not attend) $140 punch card , $20/class if space is available. Teacher Lynne Brady. Parent must volunteer once to help with the walk to/from Truckee Elementary. Children will engage in hands-on science involving open-ended free experimentation and discovery projects that focus on matter, mechanics of our earth. Limited to 10 children.
