UPickEm: Truckee’s Jim Doughty wins Sierra Sun Bowl Game Challenge

Unlike the 'Who’s the REAL national champion?' debate, there’s no controversy in the Sierra Sun’s Bowl Game Challenge results.

As the college football season finally comes to an end — Doesn’t it just seem wrong to play the national championship game on Jan. 8? I liked it better when all the big bowl games were on New Year’s Day — it appears we have to crown the Florida Gators national champions for the second time in three years. ... Unless, of course, you are a big Utah fan and you want to argue that 13-0 is better than Florida’s 13-1 record. Or you like USC ... Or Texas ...

But things are much clearer in the Sierra Sun’s UPickEm College Bowl Game Challenge, where Truckee local Jim Doughty took first place with 45 points. For his winning picks, Doughty will take home four lift tickets to Sugar Bowl Resort — home to some of the deepest snow and best terrain in the Tahoe area.

Truckee’s James McMaster and Sam Spursel should also be stoked, as second- and third-place finishers each take home two tickets to Sugar Bowl.

For the rest of you college football junkies out there, you might as well head up to Sugar Bowl yourself. You’ve got a long wait ahead of you before that first college game of the 2009 season. For more information about Sugar Bowl, see www.SugarBowl.com.

And for all of you super-competitive, got-to-prove-your-sports-knowledge-somehow types out there, check out the Sierra Sun’s Auto Racing Challenge, which kicks off on Feb. 15 with the Daytona 500.
