Several local practitioners of Ki Gong recently attended the annual West Coast World Ki Gong Clinic. Dr. Tim Schroeder, Steve Forest, Ted Mackey and Mike Bowdish, all of Tahoe City, participated. Also, Polly Parker of Olympic Valley and Arlene Becker and myself, Dr. Rolf Godon of Truckee attended. They were joined by about 40 other participants from all over the USA, the United Kingdom and Holland.

Previously learned sequences are reviewed, new sequences are presented, there is focused energy work (including self and other healing), and healing massage. At the close some participants are advanced to a next level. Steve Forest was advanced to Level III, Intermediate Instructor. Polly Parker holds that level. I am a Level IV, Advanced Intermediate Instructor and Tim Schroeder is a Level V, Advanced Instructor Therapist.

Ki Gong, or energy work, is some 4,000 years old. Tai Chi is an offshoot. At its core, it is about deep meditative breathing, synchronized with repetitive movements. It has been shown to help stress reduction, hypertension, osteoarthritis and strengthening the immune system. It can be practiced by everyone from competitive athletes to the bedridden and wheelchair bound. Overall it is designed to enhance well-being, health and vitality.

I have been practicing Ki Gong for more than six years. I have experienced freedom from colds and other respiratory ailments, have been relieved of lower back tension, have reduced hypertension and experience an overall sense of ease and lightness. My endurance and lung capacity have increased. Overall, the practice of Ki Gong will enhance the practitioner’s mind, body and spirit.

There are five weekly classes offered in the Truckee-Tahoe area. I offer two classes at the Recreation Center in Truckee: Tuesdays at 9 a.m. and Thursdays at 6 p.m. Call 587-2557 for more information. These classes are offered as a community service with the proceeds donated to Sierra Senior Services.

Steve Forest offers a Friday class at 7 a.m. at Asante Gym in Tahoe City and Saturdays at 10 a.m. at Rideout School in Tahoe City. Call 525-1360.

All classes are drop-in. We invite you to come and experience this easeful and powerful workout. Eighty million Chinese can’t be wrong.
