New reverend illuminates Tahoe City’s St. Nicholas Episcopal church

Rev. Jenni Liem to conduct first service May 24. St. Nicholas Episcopal Church and Camp Noel Porter are pleased to announce the Reverend Jenni Liem has accepted the position as the new Vicar of St. Nicholas and Executive Director of Camp Noel Porter. Rev. Jenni received her Master of Divinity degree from Seabury Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill. in 2005. Rev. Jenni and her cat are very excited to start her ministry in Tahoe City.

Her personal ministry statement is to be a joyful priest to God’s people, in word, work and the sacraments. She will be conducting her first service on Sunday, May 24 at 9 am. A celebratory brunch will follow. The community is urged to attend the service and brunch to welcome Rev. Jenni at 855 Westlake Blvd., just outside Tahoe City.

Donate to Hospice Thrift

Tahoe Forest Hospice Gift and Thrift Stores located in Truckee and Kings Beach are in need of donations.

Donations are an important part of hospice fundraising. All proceeds from the stores support hospice services throughout the Truckee-North Lake Tahoe area.

They welcome clothing, shoes, books and house wares including small appliances in good working order. Please ask for approval before unloading furniture or TVs.

Get shopping at the Project Grad rummage sale

Project Graduation is holding a fundraising rummage sale on Sunday, May 24 from 8 a.m. to 1 .m. at Tahoe Lake Elementary School. Clean out the closets and garage and donate to this very popular event Donations accepted Friday and Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Tahoe Lake school. Proceeds will benefit North Tahoe High School senior class of 2009’s trip, funding trip scholarships, transportation and chaperones. Please no computers or mattresses. For information call 583-1089.

Truckee Chili Cookoff announced for June

The Truckee Sunrise Rotary Club will debut the Truckee Chili Cookoff at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 28 at the Truckee Regional Park.

This community fundraiser will provide a day of family fun with chili tasting, non-stop entertainment, food and beverages and a host of activities for adults and children alike. The area’s best chili cooks will compete for top honors in these categories: Restaurants, Nonprofits and Individuals plus Best Overall. In addition, and a People’s Choice award.
