Amateur radio operators from Truckee and surrounding areas will construct and operate a working amateur radio field station at the CDF fire lookout station on Martis Peak, elevation of 8,000 feet, overlooking Lake Tahoe, approximately 10 miles north of Kings Beach, rom Saturday, June 27 at 11 a.m. through Sunday, June 28 at 11 a.m.
This exciting nationwide event known as “Field Day” is intended to prepare and train ham radio operators in emergency communication skills consistent with their role in natural disasters and civic emergencies. This educational 24-hour event begins is open to the public. This weekend will also feature an amateur radio tutorial on Saturday for Boy Scouts Troop 267 from Truckee and Troop 266 from Tahoe City.
This Amateur Radio “Field Day” event is open to everyone, all are invited to attend. You don't have to be a licensed amateur radio operator to participate. We will be holding “on the air” demonstrations and you can communicate on the radio with others.
