Local real estate appraiser helps homeowners with reducing property taxes

Judy Dowdy, of J. Dowdy, Appraisal Consulting, expanded her real estate appraisal business last year into a consulting service. One of the services she offers is to assist homeowners apply for a re-assessment on their properties in Nevada and Placer Counties.

Most home values have declined in the past four years and there are many properties that might qualify for a reduction in assessment value. Not every property qualifies. There are definite procedures to follow and those procedures are different for Placer and Nevada counties. There are qualifying parameters that must be met. You must typically have good, verifiable documentation to submit with your request for re-assessment.

Ms. Dowdy has been involved in the real estate industry since 1972 and is a state certified appraiser in both California and Nevada. She lives in and works out of Truckee.

Our new tax notices should be received very soon. If you think your property value has declined from the tax assessor's valuation, contact Judy at her office at 550-9363 or via her website at www.judydowdy.com or via e-mail at Judy@judydowdy.com. She will help you determine if an independent appraisal might assist you in your request for re-assessment.
