TRUCKEE, Calif. — Area police and emergency services responded Wednesday to reports of a body in Boca Reservoir.

It turned out to be a tree log.

A call came in through the Nevada County Sheriff's Office at about 6 p.m., and Truckee Fire, CalFire, Truckee Police and a helicopter were dispatched to locate a possible drowning victim in the reservoir north of Truckee.

“It turned out to be a log under the water — waves made it look like it was moving,” said Public Safety and Information Officer Gene Welch with Truckee Fire.

Some confusion was caused by cell phone calls cutting in and out from the reporting party, Welch said.

“It's important to know when a call comes in from a cell phone, we don't always get a location,” Welch said.

But all-in-all, Welch said first responders were happy it turned out to be a false alarm.

“It was not a body, nobody was injured, so life was good,” Welch said.
