Incline Village/Crystal Bay Republican women's event

The Incline Village/Crystal Bay Republican Women will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at the home of Maryanne Ingemanson. The event is a wine and hors d' oeurves garden party, $25 per person and the event is limited to 50. Reservations must be made by July 11. Speaker for the evening will be Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki. Travel wise

The North Lake Tahoe Express daily airport shuttle service is available to and from North Lake Tahoe and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport The shuttle runs from 3:30 a.m. until midnight. Fees are $35 per person, one-way, and $60 round trip. Discounts are available for groups of two or more. Reservations are required and can be made four hours in advance.

Woven Wires: Book Signing & African Basket Exhibit

Curator Laura Ponter will be at Spirits in Stone gallery signing copies of the celebrated book: Woven Wires, the art of modern Zulu wire weaving and sharing the historical journey of this growing craft-art of the Zulu people of South Africa, July 4 and 5, 11 a.m. at Spirits in Stone Gallery, Northstar Tahoe Resort, Truckee.

View a breathtaking collection of museum-quality, hand-woven baskets from South Africa and Swaziland. Celebrate the Independence Day weekend at the Arts & Crafts Festival at Northstar-at-Tahoe. This event brings together more than 60 artists and an assortment of collectibles.

Get your pancakes

There is a stack of pancake breakfasts for the holiday weekend. Have some pancakes on a lakeview deck July 4, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the North Tahoe Events Center, 8318 North Lake Blvd., Kings Beach. Proceeds go to the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe and the North Tahoe Fire Protection District.

In Truckee, the 11th annual Pancake breakfast helps support the volunteer organization Truckee Firefighters' Charitable Fund, Inc. Proceeds are used to fund several community events including the Roy Waters Memorial Scholarship for Truckee High School. This year's breakfast is free to celebrate the past 10 years of community support, hats and t-shirts will be available to purchase. Go early to beat the crowd, see the static displays of Fire and EMS equipment at the Donner Pass Road Fire Station.

The Monthly Pancake Breakfast fundraiser to benefit the Senior Meals program and the Meals on Wheels will be held on July 5 from 8 to until 11:30 a.m. in the dining room of the Truckee Donner Senior Apartments at 10040 Estates Dr. in Truckee. This month's sponsor is the P.E.O. Sorority (Philanthropic Educational Organization). Open to everyone!

The Carmel Gallery in Truckee

Olof and Elizabeth Carmel will be at the Kings Beach Outdoor Art show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through July 5. This is a great event which features wonderful artists from throughout the West in a beautiful lake front location. The Carmels will have a large selection of new works on display at the art show. Also be sure to check out Truckee Thursdays this summer in Downtown Truckee. Deadline for Artists interested in exhibiting at North Tahoe ARTS

Artists interested in exhibiting at North Tahoe ARTS in 2010 are encouraged to call the NTA office for an application or go to the Web site at northtahoearts.com to download one. Accomplished artists working in all mediums will be considered. Contemporary work as well as landscapes, still life's, portrait artists, potters, jewelers, wood turners, poetry, wall art, three-dimensional art, and sculpture submissions are encouraged. All applicants will be required to submit images of artwork in jpg format on CD's along with the application and a fee of $20. The Exhibit Committee will be reviewing all applications. Deadline for submissions is July 31.

Kings Beach Library to hold book sale

The Kings Beach Library will hold their annual book sale Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Donations will be accepted throughout the event. Call the library at 546-2021 for information.

Volunteer at Sugar Pine Point

Sugar Pine Point State Park and the Sierra State Parks Foundation want your help hosting the silver anniversary celebration of Living History Day at Pine Lodge. Re-enact life in the 1930s at the Ehrman Mansion at Sugar Pine Point State Park on July 25, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

People of all ages are needed to wear costumes and play roles of the Ehrman family members, guests and employees and to work in the children's zone. Tell stories, make crafts and play games. Volunteers may serve as greeters, docents, actors, provide security for antique cars and classic boats or help set-up and break down venues. There is an assignment for any dependable volunteer. Volunteer orientation Saturday, July 11 or Wednesday, July 15 at 4 p.m. at the Sugar Pine Point State Park Nature Center. The Village at Squaw Valley

The inaugural Bluesdays! event kicks off on July 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. as the alpenglow lights up the mountain peaks. The free blues concert, which will continue every Tuesday throughout July and August, will feature known regional acts on the Events Plaza stage. In between listening to the music, visitors can enjoy great grab and go “Blue Plate” specials from the Village restaurants, plus explore the unique shops for “Blue Dot” deals.

New outdoor venue in Truckee

There's a great new outdoor venue in Truckee just in time to rock your summer. The Rock, home of FiftyFifty Brewing Co., and located on Brockway Road in Truckee next to the Best Western Hotel, just installed a 500 square foot outdoor stage, complete with lighting and electricity.

To launch the new venue, The Rock and FiftyFifty Brewing Co. kicked off their “Rock Your Friday” free summer concert series on June 26. The concert series continues every Friday all summer long with music and an outdoor beer garden.
