LAKE TAHOE – The North Lake Tahoe Marketing Cooperative, a marketing partnership between the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association (NLTRA) and the Incline Village Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau, was honored for its marketing excellence at the 15th annual California Conference on Tourism, which was held in Newport Beach in late June.
The NLTRA received the prestigious accolade, the 2009 California Tourism Marketing Excellence Award for “Best Visitor's Guide or Brochure” for the North Lake Tahoe 2008-2009 Vacation Planner, on behalf of the cooperative as they are the designated California agency of the project. The cooperative produced the piece in conjunction with custom publisher HD96 of Incline Village, Nev.
Last year, North Lake Tahoe also took home top honors, winning the “Best Overall Marketing Campaign” for its N is for North campaign.
“This competition continues to be a wonderful opportunity to see all of the great work that is produced by our industry,” said President and CEO Caroline Beteta of the California Travel and Tourism Commission and the national chair of the U.S. Travel Association.
“These awards recognize the hard work, passion and excellence in our state's terrific tourism professionals, and demonstrates that they are the reason why California continues to be one of the world's premier leisure and travel destinations.”
An awards committee composed of marketing professionals with tourism experience selected the top two finalists in each of the eight categories from all entries received. The winners were selected by conference attendees prior to the awards ceremony luncheon. According to the California Travel and Tourism Commission, the NLTRA received high marks from the judges and positive comments all around, including “beautiful cover, interesting size,” “well organized, clean design, inspiring photos,” and “unique size and cover, unexpected, 100 percent self liquidating piece.”
According to Publisher Deb Darby of HD96, “We tried to capture the unique flavor of each of North Lake Tahoe's towns and villages. Each has a different set of attractions and experiences for our visitors and we wanted to create a planner that detailed what each area has to offer. Making the planner beautiful was the easy part — any view of North Lake Tahoe is stunningly beautiful.”
Lake Tahoe has also been recognized as the number one U.S. travel destination by TripAdvisor for 2008 (10th in the world) and the number one destination by Orbitz users for winter 2007-2008.
Visitor information centers are located at 380 North Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City and 969 Tahoe Blvd. in Incline Village, Nev. The North Lake Tahoe Visitors Bureaus, Incline Village Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau and the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association work together to promote North Lake Tahoe as a premier, year-round destination.
