GOVERNORS FIELD, Carson City — Truckee Little League's 9-10 All-Stars continued their torrid pace in the Carson City All-Star Tournament Wednesday night, defeating previously undefeated Carson Valley 12-5 to improve to 4-0.
The seven-run win was the closest yet for the Truckee All-Stars, who've outscored opponents 50-8 in the tournament while scoring at least 12 runs in each of their four games.
The most recent win earned Truckee the No. 1 seed entering the single-elimination quarterfinals, where they were to face fourth-seeded South Tahoe on Thursday night. The winner advances to the semifinals Friday, while the championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. All games are at Governors Field.
Pitchers Ethan Rohlf and Luke Smith combined to hold Carson Valley to just two earned runs Wednesday. Joey Gravell provided plenty of defensive support at second base, flashing leather to help keep the Carson Valley All-Stars off the basepaths. Gravell also contributed offensively with a pair of hits and RBIs.
Austin Johnson swung a hot bat for Truckee, coming up a home run shy of the cycle with a 4 for 4 performance that included a single, two doubles and a triple. Max Wingard also chipped in with an RBI single in the fourth.
In fitting fashion, the Truckee All-Stars ended the game on a double play — a line drive back to pitcher Luke Smith, who fired to first base to double-up the runner.

Vs. Reno American West
The Truckee 9-10 All-Stars routed Reno American West 14-1 on Tuesday night.Three Truckee pitchers combined to allow just one unearned run in the first inning.
Austin Johnson started for Truckee and pitched two innings. Bennett Drummond pitched the next two innings, and Ethan Rohlf recorded the final two outs in relief. The game was called after five innings on the 10-run mercy rule.
Offensively, Truckee scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead, then extended it with an onslaught of runs in the third and fourth.
Jack Englert hit a two-run triple and scored on an overthrow in the third inning, and Joey Gravell swatted two hits in the game, one of which drove in a pair of runs.
