CRYSTAL BAY, Nev. — Officials have postponed the release of an environmental study of the proposed resort and hotel on the North Lake Tahoe state line.
Planners at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency are still reviewing Boulder Bay's Environmental Impact Study before releasing it to the public.
“We want to make sure this document is bullet proof,” said TRPA Spokesman Dennis Oliver. “We want to do it right, and it's more important to do it right than to just rush it out.”
Originally the bi-state federal agency said the study of the project's environmental impacts would be released in July, but the process has taken longer.
Boulder Bay is a proposed resort, hotel and spa located on the Tahoe Biltmore and former Tahoe Mariner sites in Crystal Bay.
Once TRPA finishes the review, a consultant hired by the agency and paid for by Boulder Bay will review suggestions and changes.
“When we return the document it could be several more weeks,” Oliver said.
After the consultant has finished it will be released to the public for a 60-day comment period.
“That will include some public hearings, written comment and special meetings,” Oliver said.
Officials at Boulder Bay are looking forward to the document, said project manager Brian Helm.
“It's (TRPA's) document, it's their process; we look forward to it being published but we don't control their process,” Helm said.
Speaking for the North Tahoe Preservation Alliance, Crystal Bay Realtor Ann Nichols said the organization wants TRPA to get an in-depth look at the project.
“For a project with significant consequences for our community they need to do it right and take their time,” she said.
