LOS ANGELES — The massive wildfire north Los Angeles is now 38 percent contained at about 144,743 acres.
But a flare-up in the Little Tujunga Canyon area this morning has led to evacuation orders for about 20 homes into remote Pacoima Canyon on the western flank on the 226-square-mile blaze. Fire spokesman John Huschke says "everything else looks really good."
Some 12,000 homes in foothill communities below the fire's southeastern edge officially remained threatened, although other communities farther west that were under siege for days were out of danger.
The National Weather Service says it will be hot and dry the next couple days, with today's highs hovering around 100 in the fire area.
The wildfire, now in its eighth day, destroyed 64 homes, burned three people and left two firefighters dead. During the night, a firefighter injured his leg when he fell in a 20-fo ot ravine.
Full containment is expected Sept. 15.
