Parenting successful children

Lake Tahoe School presents James T. Webb, a licensed and board certified psychologist from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Lake Tahoe School. Webb's presentation is Parenting Successful Children. Webb has appeared on “Good Morning America,” “CBS Sunday Morning,” “The Phil Donahue Show,” CNN and National Public Radio.

Flu shots available

in North Lake Tahoe

Flu vaccines are available through the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and Incline Village Community Hospital, at $20. Medicare billing will be available. Phone (775) 831-0351, ext. 0 for in-home appointment. Walk-ins welcome at Incline Village Community Hospital, 880 Alder Ave. and the fire district's station at 875 Tanager St. For adults only.

The Fire District will give flu shots at the Oktoberfest Community Fair, Village Center, 774 Mays Blvd., Incline Village, Nev., Oct. 17, noon to 5 p.m. and hosting a Health & Wellness Booth with Incline Village General Improvement District's Senior Programs and Incline Village Community Hospital.

Rotary Blood Drive

Veterans Hall, 10214 High St., Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donating blood takes five to seven minutes. Refreshments available. Donors need to be at least 17 years old in relatively good health and weigh at least 110 pounds, please bring photo ID. For more info contact Wes Beyer 587-0902.

Free Blood pressure screening

The third Saturday of each month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Truckee Seventh-day Adventist Church, 11662 Hope Ct., one block west of intersection of Highway 267 and Brockway Road.

Second annual Monster Dash

Sign up now to participate in one of the most unusual run/walks in Incline. The annual Monster Dash encourages participants — and everyone is encouraged to participate — to run or walk through Incline dressed in costumes. This event is for children, adults and families. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Village Center, and the monsters are turned loose at 11 a.m. The cost is $25 for adults prior to the race day or $30 at the race and $15 for students. Prizes will be awarded and include such great items as a pass to Northstar. To sign up go to active.com, pick up a form at Incline High School or The Hacienda.

Look Good, Feel Better

Tahoe Forest Cancer Center is offering free supportive care programs. Look Good, Feel Better, This American Cancer Society program is designed to help women overcome the appearance related side effects of cancer treatment. Expert local estheticians offer this program monthly. Supplies must be ordered, so please be sure to register in advance. Meeting the first Mondays of the month. For more information, call 582-6450.

Pink Party to return

In 2004, a local group of women were sponsored by LUNA bar to provide rides and clinics to other women in the community. A requirement of the program was to raise money for the national organization, Breast Cancer Fund. To meet that requirement, the Pink Party was born. The Fifth annual Pink Party is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23, Bar of America/Pacific Crest, Downtown Truckee, 6:30 p.m. To get involved in the Pink Party, join the Board of Directors, or request information regarding a grant, please e-mail tpf@tahoepinkparty.com.

Cancer support group meetings

Twice monthly support group meetings with a medical social worker for everyone currently undergoing cancer treatment. Open to all persons living with cancer including both patients and caregivers regardless of stage, treatment or recovery. First and third Monday of the month, 6 p.m., 11970 Spring St. Call the Cancer Center at 582-6450.

Women's Wellness Weekend at Squaw

The 19th annual Women's Wellness Weekend by Tahoe Forest Health System will be Nov. 14-15 at the Village at Squaw Valley. Cost is $50 per person and includes education focused on disease prevention for women, life balance, stress reduction, nutrition, natural solutions for hormonal changes, creativity and healing, skin care and breast health. Girls on the Run Sierras will be hosting LUNAFEST Saturday, a film festival that will include food and wine and is open to the public. Sunday offers screenings, classes and a hike.
