Joint chamber mixer

The North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce and the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce are teaming up for a Joint Chamber of Commerce Mixer Wednesday, Oct. 21, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences, 999 Tahoe Blvd., Incline Village, Nev.

Hosted by Sierra Nevada College and the University of California, Davis, the event is free to both chamber and non-chamber members. Attendees will learn about what these innovative institutions are doing to provide quality liberal arts education and to protect and preserve Lake Tahoe. Guests can take part in tours every 30 minutes, including the virtual research boat tour and the 3-D Visualization Lab's “Flight Through Lake Tahoe.” There will also be live music, live art, the Clarity Bar, Eat Dessert First Bar, the Fortune Cookie Farewell and Faculty Art: The Reference Gallery. Truckee High School Horror House

The lights are off, the ghouls are out and screams are being heard for miles. Truckee High School Leadership is holding their annual Horror House Oct. 27 to 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Truckee Airport, 12110 Chandelle Way, Hangers 1 and 2. Tickets for participants who pass through the Haunted House are $4, and those who choose to play instead of scream can participate in the less frightening festivities with purchased activity tickets. Bring the family and see how much you can take.

Jeepers creepers, Sight Night needs your peepers

The Gogain Group of Keller Williams Boice Realty, in cooperation with the Gift of Sight and Lions Clubs International, will be participating in this year's Sight Night, an international effort to provide used eyewear to people in need across the globe.

Scare up used eyewear during the month of October and drop them off at the following locations: Keller Williams Boice Realty, 11382 Northwoods Blvd., Truckee; Tahoe Donner's Trout Creek Recreation Center, 12790 Northwoods Blvd.; Keller Williams Downtown Truckee, 10192 Donner Pass Road; Keller Williams O'Neal Brokers, 660 N. Haunt a room in the Truckee Hotel

Smoke machines, lights, creepy music from a booming PA system and more will transform the Truckee Hotel into a perfect Haunted House, Oct. 30, after the Truckee Halloween parade. Tim Tonachella, manager, is calling all ghosts and ghouls to take a room, pick out a theme and decorate. You even get to stay the night in your room, if you dare, free of charge. Irrigation training

The North Tahoe Public Utility District and Rain Bird Services Corporation, Training Services have partnered to bring irrigation training to the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach from Oct. 26 to 30. Classes to be offered include: Introduction to Irrigation and Installation, Irrigation Technician's Course, and Landscape Irrigation Design, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lunch provided. At the end of each class the students will receive a certification of completion and the opportunity to receive Continuing Education (CEU) credit from the Irrigation Association. Incline Community pumpkin carving event

Trail of Treats and Terror

Free community safe family Halloween event Oct. 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. Families follow a trail by foot that visits several locations. Come with costumes on and flashlights ready at one of two locations: Incline Middle School or Sierra Nevada College parking lots. A shuttle will run to deliver you to your vehicle. A collaboration between Parasol Community Collaboration-DWR Center, IVGID, Sierra Nevada College, Lake Tahoe School, Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation, and Parasol AmeriCorps Program.
